Focal Point's executive team consists of seasoned corporate executives, risk management professionals, and thought leaders who come from diverse backgrounds in the Fortune 100, the U.S. Military, and Big Four accounting firms.
Brian Marlier brings over 35 years of sales and leadership experience in the technology industry, and is one of the Founders and original Board Members of Focal Point. He currently serves the company as its Chief Executive Officer, leading the overall growth and business direction of the firm.
Brian retired from Cisco in 2017 where he spent 21 years, most recently serving as their Senior Vice President of Global Architectures and Global Enterprise Sales, where he was responsible for services and product bookings of $26 billion annually, and a global team of 3,000. As a member of Cisco’s Sales Executive Leadership team, Brian had an unbeatable track-record evolving sales to meet changing market dynamics and customers’ business needs. By working cross-functionally to design and implement innovative go-to-market models for customers’ multiyear digital transformations, Brian helped customers consume Cisco’s portfolio of services and solutions in the different ways required to drive their business outcomes.
Laura serves as Focal Point's Chief Operating Officer and Chief Strategy Officer, working with the executive team to drive the company’s near and long-term overall strategic initiatives and business goals. Laura brings over 25 years of experience in strategy driving transformation within businesses ranging from technology to government to media.
Prior to Focal Point, Laura worked at Cisco, where she ran their CEO’s global transformation program creating new billion-dollar strategic partnerships, and helped develop Cisco’s Security Services business from inception to a $250M organization. Previously, Laura was the Principal at The Hunter Group, a D.C.-based strategic management consulting firm, and has also held senior positions with SAS Analytics, CNN, NBC News, and worked in politics for various top US elected officials.
Chief Financial Officer
Jim Metzger leads Focal Point's financial operations, bringing decades of experience leading similar teams in complex, industry-leading organizations. Jim is an accomplished executive who has worked with a wide range of private equity-backed companies.
Prior to Focal Point, Jim served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer at Tax Defense Networks, and he previously worked as an executive for both Ernst & Young and Cap Gemini, as well as several other private equity-owned companies. He began his career as an auditor/consultant with Recap, Inc. He is a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace University and earned an MBA degree from a joint program between New York University, the London School of Economics, and the HEC School of Management (Paris).
Chief Information Security Officer
Andrew Cannata leads Focal Point's national Cyber Security practice, and serves as the company's CISO. Andrew manages all client relationships and coordinates business development initiatives for the Cyber Security practice. He has over 25 years of information technology and security work experience, having worked at the senior management level within “Big Four," defense, and private sector organizations.
Prior to starting Focal Point, Andrew was a Senior Manager at KPMG, and also led one of the largest Department of Defense Information Assurance Programs as a part of the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). He is a CISSP, CISM and PCI QSA.
Senior Vice President, Sales and Business Development
Dan DeSantis leads Focal Point's global sales and business development efforts. He has 25 years of experience as a tech founder, Chief Technology Officer, and sales leader, working with many of the largest companies in the world.
Prior to Focal Point, DeSantis worked for Cisco Systems, where he ran a cyber security sales team supporting some of Cisco’s largest enterprise clients. During his tenure at Cisco, DeSantis grew a $150M business for his area and formed deep and lasting ties to numerous CISOs and other senior security executives across the U.S. Previously, DeSantis ran a strategic sales team for Venafi focused on securing the encryption infrastructure of some of the top financial services organizations in the world. He was also founder and Chief Technology Officer of the Cleveland-based technology companies Stratos Internet Group and BlueBridge Networks, where his responsibilities ranged from building carrier-class data centers serving tens of thousands of customers to working with the United States Secret Service to develop and host anti-money laundering infrastructure.
General Manager, Focal Point Academy
Buffy Ellis is the General Manager of Focal Point's Academy division, bringing over 25 years of experience in Network Design, Vulnerability Assessment, Penetration Testing, and Network Monitoring and Analysis to lead a team of phenomenal technical experts in delivering hands-on cyber training courses.
As a former instructor, Buffy has trained over 4,000 students in the networking, firewall policy, intrusion detection and malware analysis fields. As the General Manager of Academy, she oversees all elements of Focal Point’s evolving Cyber Security Training portfolio, keeping our courses up to date and relevant to the cyber challenges our customers are facing every day.
General Manager, Focal Point Force
Buck Bell serves as the General Manager of Focal Point's Force division, bringing over 18 years of experience in the Identity and Access Management space.
Prior to Focal Point, Buck served as Vice President, IAM Consulting at Optiv, where he lead a team of 110 across consulting, PMO, and India Operations, and grew their services and software business from $18M to $135M. Prior to Optiv, Buck held sales leadership positions with IAM software vendors, including OpenNetwork Technologies (acquired by BMC) and Omada, and technical implementation and practice leadership roles with Logic Trends and FishNet Security. The combination of those experiences has given him insight into all aspects of the risks and opportunities inherent to identity programs.
General Manager, Focal Point Advisors
Eric Dieterich is the General Manager of Focal Point's Advisors division and leads Focal Point's national Data Privacy practice.
He is an active member of the privacy community with over 15 years of related experience. Eric is actively involved in the privacy community, which provides him with a medium for open communication in other privacy professions and regulatory bodies, and he regularly presents at numerous privacy and security conferences around the country. Eric works extensively with clients across all industries, including healthcare and financial services, and has developed privacy programs for multi-national organizations. He specializes in GLBA, HIPAA, HITECH, and SOX regulations and is a CIPP, CHA and CISA. Prior to joining Focal Point, he was part of the IT Audit team at Morgan Stanley and also held positions at Ernst & Young and Arthur Andersen.
